Our Verification Process
Choosing a therapist for your child is an important decision. You deserve clear information about who is listed in this directory and what we have reviewed.
Go Play Therapy is operated by The Hicks Group, LLC. We review new profile submissions before publishing them and check professional licenses or registrations against official records when available.
Every New Listing Receives Human Review
Before a new listing is published, a reviewer checks the information submitted by the therapist. This includes their professional information, practice location, and profile content. We may request corrections or clarification before approving a listing.
Profile approval and license verification are separate steps. A published listing does not, by itself, mean that a license or registration has been verified.
How We Verify Licenses and Registrations
When a therapist provides a license or registration number, we use the relevant licensing board or professional regulator’s records to check that the record belongs to that therapist and shows a current license or registration.
In the United States, these records are generally maintained by state licensing boards. In other countries, the appropriate authority depends on the profession and location.
License and registration numbers submitted for review are not displayed on public profiles.
What the Verification Badge Means
A “License verified” or “Registration verified” badge means that we checked the therapist’s license or registration against the relevant official record.
The badge applies to that check. It does not mean that we independently verified every degree, certification, professional membership, treatment approach, or statement in the profile.
Verification reflects the record available when we reviewed it. It is not continuous monitoring, a background check, or a guarantee of a therapist’s services or treatment outcomes. Changes to identifying or licensing information may require another review.
Different Countries Have Different Requirements
Professional titles and requirements vary across countries and jurisdictions. A professional registration, association membership, and government-issued license are not necessarily equivalent.
The absence of a verification badge does not automatically mean that a therapist is unqualified or practicing unlawfully. It means that our directory has not completed the license or registration verification represented by that badge.
Interns and pre-licensed therapists may practice under supervision where permitted. Parents should confirm a therapist’s professional status and any supervision arrangements directly.
Your Questions Still Matter
Before beginning services, ask about the therapist’s experience with children your child’s age, training in play therapy, and experience with your child’s needs. You can also confirm their current professional standing with the relevant licensing board or regulator.
Help Us Keep Listings Accurate
If you notice inaccurate information or have a concern about a listing, use “Report an Issue” at the bottom of the therapist’s profile or contact us through our Contact page.
Reports help us identify information that needs attention. We review concerns and may request clarification, require corrections, or remove a listing when appropriate.
