Therapy approaches
Who I help
I work primarily with children and families navigating anxiety, grief and loss, emotional outbursts, and major life transitions. Using Child-Centered Play Therapy, I provide a supportive space where children can express themselves through play, build emotional regulation, and grow in confidence. I also partner with caregivers to strengthen connection and support lasting change at home. I use evidence and research to inform my clinical approaches while prioritizing client respect and empowerment. I offer individual play therapy sessions to children and parenting support sessions for parents.
How I work
I approach play therapy from a child-centered, relationship-based perspective. Because play is often a child’s most natural way of communicating, sessions may include art, sand, building, sensory activities, pretend play, games, or simply exploring the space. I follow the child’s lead while using reflection, tracking, validation, and gentle limit-setting to help them feel understood, build emotional awareness, and develop a greater sense of confidence and control. I adapt my approach to each child’s age, developmental level, personality, interests, communication style, and comfort level. Some children jump right into play, while others need more time to warm up or prefer quieter, more structured activities. My role is not to direct the child toward a particular outcome, but to create a safe, accepting relationship where they can communicate, explore, and grow in the way that works best for them.
What parents can expect
Getting started typically begins with a parent or caregiver consultation so I can learn more about your child, what brings you in, and what you’re hoping will change. This also allows time for you to get to know me a bit and how play therapy works. From there, I spend time getting to know your child and building a relationship, which allows the child to feel safe and free to explore their inner circumstances and begin work.
Parents and caregivers remain an important part of the process. I provide regular opportunities to check in, share observations, offer practical strategies and education, and talk through questions or concerns. I communicate about your child’s progress in a way that protects the child’s space in therapy while keeping you informed about the bigger picture. Together, we can notice patterns, and celebrate growth.
