Who I help
Whether you’re navigating big feelings, anxiety, OCD, trauma, a difficult transition, or behavior that has you wondering, “What is going on?”, you don’t have to figure it out alone.
I work with children ages 3–12, teens, and their parents. I especially enjoy working with children who feel things deeply or who may be having a hard time putting their experiences into words. This may look like worries that feel bigger than they should, difficulty separating from a parent, intense emotions, challenging behaviors, friendship or school struggles, or difficulty adjusting to changes at home.
I also have a special interest in working with children who have experienced trauma, adoption or foster care, anxiety and OCD, as well as highly sensitive children and families.
I believe there is more underneath a child’s behavior than what we see on the surface. My goal is to help children feel safe, understood, and supported while helping parents better understand what their child may be trying to communicate.
How I work
Children communicate through behavior, play, and emotion long before they always have the words to explain what they are feeling. That is one of the reasons I love play therapy.
For younger children, I primarily use child centered play therapy grounded in the work of Garry Landreth. I follow your child’s lead and create a space where they can be themselves, build trust, and work through feelings and experiences in a way that makes sense for them. Through play, children can practice new skills, express emotions, work through difficult experiences, and build confidence.
As children get older, therapy may look more like a combination of conversation, play, creative activities, coping skills, and other approaches that fit their age and personality. I primarily use Child-Centered Play Therapy and also draw from CBT, attachment-based approaches, TBRI®, and play-based ERP when appropriate.
Every child is different, so I don’t believe therapy should look the same for every child. I take time to get to know who your child is, what they need, and what helps them feel comfortable. My hope is that therapy feels like a safe place where your child can show up exactly as they are.
What parents can expect
Getting started is about getting to know your family. I start with a parent intake session. We’ll talk about what has been going on, what you’ve noticed, your child’s strengths, and what you hope will feel different with support.
I want your child to have a safe space to build a relationship with me, but I also believe parents are an important part of the process. I typically have a parent consultation about every five sessions so we can check in about how things are going, what I’m noticing, and how you can support your child between sessions.
These conversations are also a chance to talk through the things that can be hard at home. Sometimes that means making sense of a behavior, finding a different way to respond, or simply having someone help you understand what your child may need.
My goal is to help you feel more connected, confident, and supported as you navigate your child’s needs.
We’re on the same team, and you don’t have to navigate it alone.
