Therapy approaches
Who I help
I work with children who are experiencing anxiety, emotional or behavioral challenges, difficulty with peer relationships, low self-esteem, or trouble adjusting to changes and transitions. I also work with parents who want to better understand their child's behavior, strengthen their relationship, and feel more confident responding to their child's needs. Whether a family is seeking support for a child's individual struggles or looking for guidance in navigating parenting challenges, I help children and parents build on their strengths, develop new skills, and create more positive connections at home.
How I work
I practice Child-Centered Play Therapy, a developmentally appropriate approach that allows children to lead their own play in a safe, supportive environment where they feel heard, understood, and accepted. During sessions, children choose from a variety of toys and materials, giving them the freedom to play in ways that are meaningful to them. I follow each child's lead as they explore and work through challenges at their own pace. Through this process, children will develop greater emotional awareness, improve their ability to manage frustration and strong reactions, and build self-esteem. Play therapy will also lead to a reduction in anxiety, behavioral challenges, and social difficulties, helping children feel more successful at home, at school, and in relationships.
What parents can expect
To get started, call Rambam at 718-942-3866 to schedule an appointment with an intake therapist. After the intake, we will schedule a first parent session based on availability. During this session, we will discuss your concerns, your child's needs, and whether play therapy or parent coaching would be the best fit for your family.
If you begin play therapy, you will typically meet with me approximately every five weeks to discuss your child's progress, learn practical skills to support your child at home, and ask questions. These sessions give us time to work together, address your concerns, and help you support your child's growth outside the playroom.
